Play group is a place where young children around the age of 2 to 3 1/2 yrs are nursed
with care so that they can develop essential traits according to the expectations
of our society and culture.
It is an extension of the house, but they have an opportunity to mingle with children
of the same age which will make them a mature adult and a fit member of the society.
In a good Play group eventhough the situation is free and flexible, the children
have to adapt to the basic rules of the school. This can be quite an eyeopener to
the Play group children who have been ruling their family with their temper and demands.
School thus tends to discourage the self centeredness which is natural for the young
children at home.
In Play group, young children learn as they play with materials, share their experiences
with other children & with teachers. It gives a rich, full living experience
at their level. It helps them to solve problems they have in relation to themselves,
in relation to other children & in relation to the social situation that school
provides.
Play group is a place where the children develop many aspects of their individuality
that may not be tapped or provided for at home.
Play group provides opportunities to children rich in variety for quiet as well as
vigorous play, art media for self expression, chance for experiences with literature,
music, science etc.,
